When we designed our birth announcement website BabySaysHello.com we decided to feature a Quote of the Month. We thought it would be a nice idea to compile some of our favourites from months gone by. What we love about these quotes is their simplicity, their honesty, their beauty and their capacity to remind us just how amazing our children really are.

Forget those old wives’ tales about sleeping with a wooden spoon under the bed or having sex standing up. Scientists have proved that a bowl of cereal every morning can influence your baby’s gender without the need for medical treatment (or, er, a wooden spoon under the bed).

Strange but true. Apparently your calorie intake at the time of conception is the decider. Women who eat 2,250+ calories per day have a 56% chance of conceiving a boy whereas women on a diet, or those eating around 1,750 calories per day, have a 45% chance of conceiving a boy.

Dr Fiona Mathews of Exeter University explained that the link between diet and babies could explain the subtle but consistent decline in boy births over the last 40 years. Inspite of the obesity epidemic women are on average consuming less calories than 40 years ago.

With today’s hectic lifestyle it’s increasingly common for working women to skip breakfast – great if you want a girl, but if you’ve painted the nursery blue, you’ll need to get some Crunchy Nut cornflakes in pronto!

go to Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale on the birth of their second son yesterday afternoon. The little fella weighed in at 8lb 5oz and goes by the name of Zuma Nesta Rock. How cool?! Wonder how much those first baby snaps will go for…

We recently read an interesting article and wanted to share it with you. A survey of 4,000 housewives by networking site AllJoinOn.com calculated that if a professional was employed to do all the jobs a mother does, they would earn £30,000. Staggering isn’t it?!
