Because you’re worth it

We recently read an interesting article and wanted to share it with you. A survey of 4,000 housewives by networking site AllJoinOn.com calculated that if a professional was employed to do all the jobs a mother does, they would earn £30,000. Staggering isn’t it?!

The survey researched how much time women spent on particular tasks and calculated the average pay a professional would earn for the same job:

For the five hours a day the average mum spends looking after her children, a nanny on an hourly rate of £8 would earn £36.80 for the same job.

Cleaning and tidying for 71 minutes would net a cleaner £7.10 a day.

For more than an hour of cooking a head chef would get £17.30.

Fourteen minutes making the beds is worth £1.29 for a chambermaid.

A kitchen assistant would be paid £2.57 for 28 minutes of washing up.

An accountant trawling the finances for 39 minutes would cost £12.50

A taxi driver would earn £2.53 for the 23 minutes of ferrying children around,

A mystery shopper would charge £2.10 for the 18 minutes a day of grocery shopping.

It makes for interesting reading, but it does beg the question – is caring for your family and bringing up your children something you can put a price on? Surely not? Love, affection, teaching your children right from wrong, giving them a cuddle when they graze their knees… these are the things that are, quite literally, invaluable.
